FUSO – INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL VIDEOART FESTIVAL OF LISBOA
AUG 22 > AUG 27 2017

THE VIDEOART_ YESTERDAY AND TODAY, IN PORTUGAL, SPAIN, CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICAS.

Founded in 2009, FUSO is Lisbon’s only annual video art festival.

It presents works whose language ranges from the historical to the most contemporary, that juxtapose Video, Performance and Cinema, selected and presented by national and international curators, in programs created exclusively for FUSO.

The festival includes seven sessions of mostly international invited curators and two sessions programmed by FUSO’s artistic director, Jean-François Chougnet, selected from work submitted through an Open Call process, open to Portuguese artists or artists residing in Portugal. The Open Call aims to encourage and show new productions of Portuguese art video. The Festival awards each year a jury selected FUSO Acquisition Award underwritten by the Fundação EDP / MAAT, and a Public Award underwritten by RESTART Creative Education.

In addition to these programs, FUSO honors each year one or more artists of fundamental importance to video art history. FUSO is part of Festas de Lisboa/EGEAC and Lisbon, Ibero-american Culture Capital, 2017.

9th EDITION

In 2017, FUSO dedicates its edition to the theme of Yesterday and Today, in line with the proposed Past and Present theme of the Lisbon Ibero-american Cultural Capital program.

The juxtaposition of historical and contemporary video art works, at the genesis of FUSO, is complemented this year by a comprehensive and referential dialog about past and present between Europe and the Americas, resulting from the sessions presented by prominent South American, Central American and Portuguese curators.

Fuso 2017 will honor the Brazilian artist Paulo Bruscky, a pioneer, in Brazil, of conceptual art in the 60’s and from the 70’s on, a pioneer of postal art, video art and sound art.
